Sometimes an upgrade isn’t about going brand new—it’s about getting something better, faster, and within budget.
That was the case this week.
The Request
We had a Mohs surgeon reach out who was currently using a Nikon Eclipse 80i microscope.
They were comfortable with Nikon and wanted to stay in that ecosystem, but they were ready for something newer with improved performance and ergonomics.
The Solution
We were able to recommend and build out a Nikon Ni-U microscope configured exactly for their needs.
This particular setup included:
- A strong 12V 100W halogen illumination system
- Plan Apo optics for high-end image quality
- An ergonomic head for improved comfort during long cases
Why This Was an Upgrade
Even though they were already using a solid platform, this Ni-U offered several meaningful improvements:
- Better electronics and overall performance
- Improved ergonomics for daily use
- A more modern and refined design
- Upgraded optics for sharper, more consistent imaging
It gave them a familiar Nikon experience, but at a higher level.
Budget and Timing
Like many customers, they had two key priorities:
- Stay within budget
- Get the microscope quickly
Because we had the components in stock, we were able to:
- Build the system to spec
- Test and prepare it
- Ship it out within a day or two
No long lead times. No delays.

We put together a quick demo video walking through this exact configuration for the customer:
Final Thoughts
This is a great example of how the right microscope doesn’t always mean the newest or most expensive option.
By focusing on what the customer actually needed, we were able to deliver:
- A meaningful upgrade from their current system
- High-end optics and performance
- Fast turnaround
- A solution that stayed within budget
If you’re currently using a Nikon platform and considering an upgrade, there are often options that give you more performance without the cost or wait of buying new.
