How to Change the Bulb on the Excelitas X-Cite 120
The Excelitas X-Cite 120 is a popular fluorescence illumination system, and changing the bulb is a simple yet essential maintenance task. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you replace the bulb, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
Step 1: Turn Off the System and Disconnect Power
Before beginning, turn off the X-Cite 120 and unplug the system from the power source. This is crucial for safety and ensures you don't encounter any electrical hazards during the bulb replacement process.
Step 2: Let the System Cool Down
If the system has been running, allow it to cool down for 10-15 minutes. The bulb can get quite hot, and handling it while hot can result in burns or damage to the new bulb.
Step 3: Open the Bulb Compartment
To access the bulb, you’ll need to remove the cover of the bulb compartment. The screw securing the cover is located on the top of the compartment and typically requires a 3 mm Allen wrench. Unscrew the bolt and set it aside.
Once the screw is removed, gently lift off the cover to access the bulb.
Step 4: Remove the Old Bulb
Inside the bulb compartment, you’ll find the old bulb secured by a silver safety clamp. Carefully release the safety clamp, and once it’s open, you can gently pull out the old bulb. Avoid touching the glass part of the bulb as oils from your skin can reduce the life of the new bulb.
The bulb will only go in one way, so take note of its orientation before removing it.
Step 5: Install the New Bulb
Take your new X-Cite 120 bulb and carefully insert it into the socket. The bulb will only fit one way due to its design, so ensure it is correctly aligned before inserting. Once the bulb is seated properly, plug it into the internal connector of the system, making sure it is securely attached.
Step 6: Secure the Bulb with the Safety Clamp
Once the new bulb is in place, close the safety clamp to hold the bulb firmly in position. Ensure the clamp is fully closed to prevent the bulb from shifting during use.
Step 7: Close the Bulb Compartment
After securing the bulb, replace the cover over the bulb compartment and tighten the screw using the 3 mm Allen wrench. Make sure the cover is securely fastened to prevent any dust or debris from entering the compartment.
Step 8: Power On the X-Cite 120
Reconnect the X-Cite 120 to the power source and power on the system. The new bulb should light up immediately, providing bright and even fluorescence illumination for your microscope.
Step 9: Test the System
After replacing the bulb, perform a quick test to ensure the system is functioning properly. Check the illumination to ensure the light is bright and even.
